The guest Haus is really starting to look good.

We went to check on progress and discuss a few details with Owen from NEAThouse.  We have been away visitng friends and family in New Zealand and it was great to see how much had happened.

Front

The front looks impressive, with the lovely forest in the backgound, even though the cladding is not on yet.  You can see what’s behind the cladding, a construction fabric  called Enviroseal ProctorWrap, which keeps moisture out while preventing condensation.  We all love fungi, but not in the walls.  There will be insulation behind that to keep us warm in winter and cool in summer, together with the double glazing.  Snug Haus isn’t just a name!

Back

The back has just enough windows to allow for cross ventilation and light, without intruding on the privacy of guests (we’re a fair bit further up the hill than where the photo is taken from).  The cladding on the back wall is nearly finished.

Now to step inside!  The plan gives you an idea of the layout.  Compact, simple, cosy, with everything to make visitors comfortable.studio

The first thing that greets you as you walk in the door is the view.  P.S. – there will be a railing on the deck to lean against with your glass of wine.

Step inside

At this stage, you can see right through the ‘kitchen cupboards’ to the bathroom.  There will be a bathtub in the corner of the bathroom where the windows are, for people to laze and admire the view of the sea on one side and forest on the other.  There will also be a large shower with level entry and no door, easy to access.

The laundry will be hidden behind a cupboard, because who wants to look at that?

Sunny bedroom, there will be a feature timber wall behind the bed.  Beams by local Tassie company Eco Truss.

Richard can’t wait for the shed to be finished – little does he know that I’ve got my eye on it, too.  Equal shed rights for women, I say!

So many birds everywhere and the forest is beautiful.
