We’ve bought a 2 hectare block at Snug, just South of Hobart, Tasmania.  It has a wonderful view and power to the gate.  That’s it.  Nothing else.  No sheds, driveway, dam, or anything else.  Now comes the hard work – how to turn this ‘clean slate’ into a home and a small business.

Our dream is this – to have an energy-efficient, comfortable, affordable house for us and a cottage for visitors, sunny and making the most of the spectacular location and views.  There is no town water, so we will need our own water supply,  We plan to grow fruit and vegetables and live in some sort of harmony with the plentiful wildlife – there is a large area of forest next door.

I’m going to document what we do step by step and give my own opinion and evaluation of services and products along the way.  If you have any suggestions or ideas, you’re welcome to comment.

I have lived in Tasmania for the last 25 years, first on a farm near Lilydale, then in Launceston and Hobart, so I have some experience of country life.  I’ve renovated, but never built a house before.  It’s going to be an interesting journey!
